Fig. 1. Locations where O. vulgare, Turkish O. onites and Syrian O. syriacum were sampled (a). The colour of arrows refers to the dominating essential oil chemotype (red = sabinyl-chemotypes, green = cymyl-chemotypes, yellow = acyclic (linalool/linalyl acetate) chemotypes, turquoise = other, mostly sesquiterpene-rich chemotypes dominated). The graphs below illustrate the content of essential oil (EO) compounds for each population (b) as well as frequencies and distribution of main essential oil chemotypes (c) within the Origanum populations analysed.
