A perspective article on the realities of the consortium approach in science, through the example of ExtremoForm. We reflect on the enzymatic transformation of carbon dioxide into high-value chemicals with formate dehydrogenases (FDHs), focusing specifically on FDHs discovered by an environmental metagenomic research.
