Description

Carcharhinus limbatus (Müller & Henle 1839) — Common blacktip shark

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on confirmed records from an observer program on shark longline vessels in May and June 2014 (NFA and CSIRO, unpublished data); tissue samples and vertebrae retained. A specimen photographed in Kavieng District by D. Borcherds.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Circumglobal in warm temperate and tropical seas. Pelagic in inshore and offshore waters. Marine.
