Description

Barichneumon bilunulatus (Gravenhorst, 1829)

Figs 20 (A, B), 21 (A–D)

Material examined: 1♂, Kharga Oasis (New Valley) [25°14’02.8”N 30°31’32.2”E], May, 2022, white pan trap in V. faba; 1♂, Kharga Oasis (New Valley) [25°33’41.9”N 30°37’41.9”E], May, 2022, blue pan trap in V. faba intercropped with B. napus; 1♂, Kharga Oasis (New Valley) [25°33’41.9”N 30°37’41.9”E], May, 2022, blue pan trap in V. faba; 1♂, Kharga Oasis (New Valley) [25°33’41.9”N 30°37’41.9”E], May, 2022, yellow pan trap in V. faba; 1♂, Kharga Oasis (New Valley) [25°33’41.9”N 30°37’41.9”E], May, 2022, blue pan trap in V. faba.

Diagnosis. Body generally black with metasomal T 2, T 3 and hardly seen very narrow strip at base of T 3 reddish brown, the following parts are whitish: lower inner orbits of eyes, lateral sides of clypeus, humeral angles (partly), scutellum (partly); femora and tibiae reddish brown, base of front femur and middle femur (mostly), and apical third of hind tibia darkened; antenna dark brown dorsally and reddish brown ventrally especially at apical half; antennomeres without keels.

Distribution in the MENA: Algeria, Egypt (new record), Iran, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey.

Comments: This is the first record for the genus and species for the Egyptian fauna as well as for V. faba as an associate plant. Characters of the species agree with Meyer’s key of the genus Barichneumon (1933: 218, couplet 186). It only differs from Meyer’s characters in having metasomal T 2 and T 3 reddish brown (in Meyer’s male, segments 2–5 reddish brown).
