Carranque Mosaic of Briseis and Achilles

Mosaic of Briseis and Achilles preserved in the Roman villa of Carranque (Toledo, Spain). The residential part of the Roman villa of Carranque preserves one of the best collections of Roman mosaics in Spain. Most of the mosaics have been dated to the 4th century AD. In this case, we see Briseis and Achilles represented. In Homer's Iliad, Briseis was kidnapped by Achilles. However, Agamemnon took possession of her which provoked the wrath of Achilles who withdrew from the battle of Troy. After the death of his friend Patroclus, Achilles returned to battle. In gratitude, King Agamemnon returned Briseis to him. It is precisely this moment that is represented in the mosaic. The mosaics of the Roman villa of Carranque are made up of thousands of tesserae, made up of small stones, ceramic fragments and glass of different colors. 3D Model made using 302 images in Reality Capture.
