Description

Monument for Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor in the park of Schönbrunn Palace. The bust of Francis I is on a three-sided plinth with masks and garlands, and an eagle on each corner. The monument dates from 1766 and was designed by Balthasar Ferdinand Moll. Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor (1708-1765) was Duke of Lorraine and Bar from 1729 to 1736 as Franz III. He was subsequently Grand Duke of Tuscany from 1737 as Francis II and Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire from 1745 as Francis I. In 1736 he married Maria Theresa of Austria.
