Description

Hannaken fountain in the 1st district of Vienna from 1937. The fountain was built during the construction of the ascent from the Tiefen Graben to the church Maria am Gestade and was designed by Rudolf Schmidt. The octagonal fountain basin, the base and the group of figures are made of Lindabrunn conglomerate. The group of figures consists of three people, a dog, a jug and leaf tendrils. As gargoyles there is a fish head on each side of the base. The design of the Hannaken Fountain refers to the story of the so-called Hannaken King, a Barber surgeon (physicians of poor people who could not afford to study) from the Eastern Moravian Hanna. He is said to have deliberately overthrown passers-by in the dark of the night in order to earn money with their treatment afterwards. ![](https://wien.noe-3d.at/SF/hannaken.jpg) Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
