Description

This so-called aedicula of the cross is located in the upper level of the Catacombs. It is named after a painted cross between curtains in an apse, which rises over a pedestal. Greek letters are beside the cross: the abbreviation for Christ (above) and (below) the word NIKA (victory). The other paintings show figural depictions from different times in a poor conservation status. Vine branches with a dark rectangle in the middle dominates the arched ceiling. Rectangular tombs (formae), in one of them relics of a mosaic epitaph were found, and a today still circular recess lace the floor. Researchers still discuss the exact dating of this part. Processed from 588 photos and 4 laser scans. The result of a joint project of GDH, the Zamani Project, Università degli Studi di Napoli "L'Orientale", and the Administration of the Catacombe di Napoli. Processed in Reality Capture. The descriptions were provided by Seniorprofessor Dr. Dieter Korol, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster. Project # Fresco 9. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
