Late Roman Empire Sarcophagus

High relief carved in marble imported from Rome. Dated from the Early IV c. AD (310 A.D.), reveals the assimilation of Christianism by the Hispanic elites (not everyone can afford such a piece and material imported from Rome). The relief depicts differents events from the Old and New Testament. For more details, check the annotations in the model. This piece was placed in the cathedral of Astorga, Spain. It is assumed that was used to keep king Alfonso III (the Great) corpse, dead in the early X c.
