Description

Supplementary Material for Teaching Practice Using ChatGPT in Higher Education

Abstract (English)

Supplementary Material for the Teaching Practice Using ChatGPT in Higher Education. ChatGPT is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbot platform developed by OpenAI. Some studies have identified the advantages and disadvantages of using ChatGPT in teaching and knowledge generation in higher education. To identify proposals for using ChatGPT to improve learning and knowledge production in the field of computer science; to identify how ChatGPT is currently being used by professors in the computer science field in the context of learning and knowledge production; and to identify the advantages and disadvantages of using ChatGPT, proposing actions to mitigate them. We have conducted a survey with 86 professors in the Computer Science field in Brazil to collect their perceptions regarding the use of ChatGPT. Our findings reveal that professors in the computer science field are using ChatGPT in content generation and production of teaching material to be used in the classroom, such as practical exercises, slides, assignments, and tests. They also consider that ChatGPT can be used as a mediator of learning, facilitating interaction between students and professors. In the context of knowledge production, professors already use ChatGPT to support the writing of research or articles and to perform automatic summaries. However, according to professors' perceptions, the biggest problem with ChatGPT is that it does not provide bibliographic references for the content provided in queries.
