Description
The provided code is related to the human thermal bioclimate dataset presented at: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.10251280. The dataset consists of hourly values of population-weighted mPET (modified physiologically equivalent temperature), simulated by the RayMan Pro model for the period 1991-2020 and for 10 population subsets in 72 regional units and combinations thereof, which are based on the NUTS-3 (Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics-3) classification in Greece, using the Copernicus European Regional Reanalysis (CERRA) at 5.5 km spatial resolution.
The code includes: (i) a plain text document providing commands for installing Python, version 3.11, and relevant packages in a Conda environment, (ii) 10 executable scripts in Python, Bash and Visual Basic (VB) programming languages, (iii) two supporting files for building the Conda environment and defining the CERRA coordinate reference system, (iv) the "GEOSTAT" folder, and the (v) the "regional_units" folder, which includes the defined regional units in Greece in GeoPackage format.
Before executing the code: (a) the compressed folder that contains the GEOSTAT 2021 grid dataset, version 2.0.1 (GEOSTAT-grid-POP-1K-2011-V2-0-1.zip), should be downloaded from this url: https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/gisco/geodata/reference-data/population-distribution-demography/geostat, and be unzipped within the "GEOSTAT" folder; (b) the compressed folder that contains the RayMan Pro, version 3.1, model (RayManPro.zip), should be requested from this url: https://www.urbanclimate.net/rayman/introraymanpro.htm, and be stored and unzipped within the main code directory.
The code can be used to replicate the dataset not only directly in Greece, but also in any other country included in the CERRA domain after appropriate adjustments.
Both the dataset and the code were created in the frames of the HEAT-ALARM ("Development of a heat-health warning system in Greece") research project, which is funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.) under the "3d Call for H.F.R.I. Research Projects to support Post-Doctoral Researchers" (Project Number: 06885).
Compared to the previous version of the code, this version includes a small update in the description of the “10_launch-rayman-CERRA” VB script.
