Vouchers: FMNH 5974 (1). Distribution: Central America; endemic to the Lago Xolotlán (Managua), Nicaragua; (Nicaragua) LN (Atlantic); 41– 41 masl; Sec, Pot. Occurrence and conservation status: Nat, End; NE, population trend unknown. Literature: Meek (1907: 124, as Cichlasoma erythraeus —synonym; brief description, including an identification key, and information on distribution and ecology), Stauffer & McKaye (2002: 8; comparative morphological data and information on distribution) and Stauffer et al.
