ANGLICISMS IN CONTEMPORARY FRENCH: A COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS OF LINGUISTIC BORROWING AND CULTURAL INTEGRATION

Authors/Creators

Description

Abstract

This study provides an extensive analysis of the use of Anglicisms in contemporary French, illustrating the multifaceted nature of linguistic borrowing and its implications for cultural and linguistic evolution. By examining a corpus of 250 Anglicisms across various domains—including technology and internet, business and economics, lifestyle and entertainment, and academic and scientific terminology—the research reveals the profound influence of English on the French language in the context of globalization and cultural exchange. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach that combines quantitative analysis (frequency and statistical significance tests) with qualitative assessments (interviews, surveys, and thematic coding), this study highlights the dynamic interplay between language adaptation and cultural trends. The findings show a significant integration of English vocabulary in French, reflecting broader socio-cultural shifts and the global dominance of English in several domains. Additionally, the study explores the resistance to Anglicisms within French linguistic purism, suggesting a balance between linguistic evolution and the preservation of French linguistic heritage. This research contributes to the understanding of language change in the era of globalization, offering insights into the linguistic and cultural dynamics of Anglicism integration in French society.
