Flat Axe Mould
Description
Culture: [Bronze Age](http://n2t.net/ark:/99152/p0gjgrs6qb2) Material: Stone Accession No: HCA 212 Current Location [The Hunt Museum](https://www.huntmuseum.com/), [Limerick](https://www.geonames.org/7778675/limerick-city.html). An [Early Bronze Age]( http://n2t.net/ark:/99152/p0kh9dshs59) [casting mould](http://vocab.getty.edu/page/aat/300422800) for flat copper or bronze tools. One face contains a matrix for a flat axe and a smaller axe or chisel-like implement; the opposing one has a matrix for a lightly larger flat axe. The edges of the mould have been shaped by pecking, the face with the matrix remains irregular suggesting it is unlikely a cover would have been fitted on top. As the Bronze Age progressed, more complex two-piece moulds were developed. [More](https://tinyurl.com/yckm62mc).
