Description

Broken recumbent medieval graveslab at the eastern end of the 15th century Augustinian priory (TN004-010006-) in Lorrha, County Tipperary. Partial remains of a slab the surface of which is decorated with a Latin cross with faint traces of a possible sword carved into the shaft of the cross. The presence of a sword on the slab may indicate the grave of a male figure who may have had the right to bear arms. Lorrha monastery was founded by St. Ruadhán who died in 584 and was referred to as the 'lamp of Lothra', his feastday was held on the 15th of April when the 'cuckoo began to call'.
