Description

A sandstone figure, comprising the head and upper torso of a man (without arms) has been inserted above the door lintel on a farmhouse near Balquidder. The stone is known as Am Bodach, the old man. The figure was installed when the farmhouse was extended in 1750. It had been brought by a member of the family from their former home at Carnlia, a settlement in Glen Beich by Loch Earn (there is no trace now of Carnlia). The figure had reputedly existed for many years by the roadside there, but had been damaged by local boys throwing stones at it. The figure is of unknown date but it perhaps has the look of a Celtic head. It has some sort of inscription on its right hand side (as you face it) but this seems to be indecipherable, a claim this is the date 1341, is clearly not the case from examination of various enders of this 3D photogrammetry model. Its white nose is the consequence of a recent amateur repair. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
