Description

The castle/convent of Calatrava La Nueva (New Calatrava) is located in the center of the province of Ciudad Real (Castilla-La Mancha, Spain). It was built in the 13th century to serve as the seat of the powerful Order of Calatrava. The Order of Calatrava was an important Spanish military order attached to the Cistercian Order, composed of monk-warriors similar to the Crusaders who fought in the East. It was founded in 1158 in the city of Qal'at Rabah (Calatrava la Vieja), being the first military order founded on the Iberian Peninsula. The castle/convent of Calatrava La Nueva is protected by three walls that adapt to the topography of the terrain, making it practically impregnable. Inside the walls there is a beautiful medieval church built in Gothic style. We want to publicly thank the collaboration of the Castilla-La Mancha regional government and the archaeologist Ana Segovia Fernández. This model was created in RealityCapture from 1561 images.
