Book of Abstracts I SEMINAR ON NATURE BASED SOLUTIONS IN AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY: Strategies for Carbon Capture and Reductionof GHG Emissions in Brazil

Description

This Book of Abstracts is the consequence of the "I Seminar on Nature-Based Solutions in Agriculture and Forestry: Strategies for Carbon Capture and Reduction of GHG Emissions in Brazil" organised by the Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Innovation (RCGI), the RCGI programme "Nature Based Solutions" (NBS), and SHELL NBS Technology Lead.

The seminar lasted two days. On the first day, distinguished researchers presented important concepts, advances, and perspectives in three roundtables related to the application of NBS from macroscale to microscale, including forest restoration strategies and opportunities, carbon farming, and challenges to measure greenhouse gas emissions and C sequestration in the soil.

The second day of the event was dedicated to the presentation of students associated with the projects. The students and postdocs presented the main achievements of their research, as well as allowing the audience to realize the quantity and quality of information that is being generated, including short-, medium-, and long-term studies in different biomes, types of soil, and experimental designs. In addition, valuable studies of literature review, meta-analyses, modeling, and scenario analysis have been performed.

RCGI thanks the participation of all researchers, professors, and staff who worked to make this Book of Abstract available.

We gratefully acknowledge the support of the RCGI – Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Innovation, hosted by the University of São Paulo (USP) and sponsored by FAPESP – São Paulo Research Foundation (2020/15230-5; 2014/50279-4) and Shell Brasil, and the strategic importance of the support given by ANP (Brazil's National Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency) through the R&DI levy regulation.
