Description

67. Didymium cf. haretianum T.N. Lakh. & K.G. Mukerji, Acta Bot. Indica 6(Suppl.): 18 (1979)

Specimen examined. PERU. Cusco: Canchis, Marangani, Aguas calientes, route PE-3S, Km 1137, 4057 m, 14º27′01”S, 71º04′36”W, 22 Apr 2016, leaves of Puya sp., Lado 24625 (MA-Fungi 95895, USM).

Notes. Similar to D. squamulosum and D. ilicinum Ing with calcareous stalks and peridium dehiscence as tiny flakes. However, the Peruvian specimen differs from both species by the spores ornamented with warts, connected to form short subreticulae, and the lack of a prominent columella but with an irregular pseudocolumella not described in the species.

The morphology is the same as that observed in D. haretianun. Still, the determination of the Peruvian material is not certain since an irregular pseudocolumella was observed inside the sporotheca. This structure is not mentioned in the original description of the species. Having only one collection, we have not been able to determine if this character is stable or due to the effect of environmental conditions during maturation.
