Data-related preprint withdrawals in arXiv

The rapid dissemination of research through preprints poses challenges related to quality control; however, preprint retractions remain unexplored. This poster addresses the gap, using the case of the arXiv, a prominent preprint platform for researchers in data-intensive fields. As of the latest available data (October 20, 2023), the arXiv contains 7217 withdrawn preprints, accompanied by comments explaining the reasons for withdrawal. Among these, 112 withdrawn preprints (approximately 1.6% of the total withdrawn) directly mention issues related to data. Studying data-related withdrawals reveals challenges in data practices and contributes to the discussion on the role of preprints in scholarly communication.
