Description

Evidence-Based Toxicology evaluation report for "Using Machine-Learning to Facilitate Data Extraction for Human Health Chemical Assessments: Protocol for a case application" (Angrish et al). This manuscript is a protocol for a study with two main objectives: (1) to create a literature inventory database that would support the development of a Provisional Peer-Reviewed Toxicity Value (PPRTV) assessment for 1,3-dinitrobenzene (1,3-DNB); and (2) to use the process for creating the inventory as a case study for the application of AI, specifically the Dextr tool, in data extraction. The editorial evaluation has identified several issues with the clarity and completeness of the protocol, recommending restructuring and further development of the planned methods before the manuscript can be advanced to peer review.
