An Examination of Existing Quality Management Practices on Selected Construction Sites in Delta State.

The need for attention and focus on quality in building construction can never be over emphasized. In Delta State, there have been incidents of poorly executed building projects. The aim of this research is to examine existing quality management practices on selected construction sites in Delta State, Nigeria with a view to recommend measure for effective project delivery. The objectives of the study are to assess quality Management Practices on construction sites in Nigeria and to identify standard quality management assessment tool on construction sites. Both Survey and Descriptive research designs were used in this study. A total of 66 approved building construction sites by the zonal offices of the Delta State Urban and Regional Planning Board, within the period of study; sample size of 264 professional respondents was considered but only 187 of the questionnaires were retrieved and analysed. Quantitative and exploratory analysis were employed in the study. SPSS (statistical package for social science) was used to analyse data obtained from questionnaires. The study revealed that Standard Quality Management assessment tool on Construction Sites includes Quality Planning, Quality Assurance and Quality Control. The study recommended, among others, that top management must show serious commitments to quality management practices and strategically develop relevant training programs geared towards acquisition of expertise and technical knowledge for their employees in a bid to get them committed.
