Description

General observations of Mediumwave (AM) radio broadcasts during Totality for each transmitter site.  This is not HAM radio HF but I am looking for other observations using AM radio as part of larger picture to estimate/predict behavior of lower frequency radio waves as the Umbra moves across the targeted area.  Equipment: Sony 2010 receiver (Sync turned ON to increase readability), homemade triple 14 inch cross-parallel loop antenna on outdoor picnic table with Wellbrook ALA100M headend amp, Palstar powered preselector tuned to each station as needed, all on battery packs.  Location: Ferne Clyffe State Park, Goreville, IL.  Clear view of western targets, small hill to the east.

Indeed, it was observed that very little of the degradation of the D and E layers noted as the Umbra moved TOWARDS my location.  Only after passing my location and listening to targets towards the Umbra as it moved AWAY from my location.  Was this observed by others monitoring MW or HF frequencies?  Any feedback appreciated!

Also, an estimation of time of listenable signal seems to be on the order of 5 to 10 minutes.

Thirdly, as estimation of the width of the affected targets in relation to the distance from the outside edge of the path of Totality seems to be on the order of about 200 - 300 km.

Some of this is well-known from 20th century experiments but the direction to hear targets in which to listen with respect to the Umbra was unexpected.  Any feedback appreciated!

The length of the KMOX recording was only because I was taking pictures and for others to hear Totality coming to our location, it did increase in signal strength about 25% from a baseline.

Notes

Forgot to mention western targets that failed: KEX 1190 Portland OR, KBOI 670 Boise ID, KTWO 1030 Casper WY (male announcer buried in noise and unintelligible), KRVN 880 Lexington NE, KFAB 1110 Omaha NE, WHO 1040 Des Moines IA, KCSP 610 Kansas City.
