Description

The article deals with the campaign of Prince Vladimir Svyatoslavich of Kiev on the «black Bulgarians». The author discusses well-known versions of the Prince’s campaign and proves that these versions have significant drawbacks. Historians link the campaign with the Danube and Volga Bulgars but do not take into account the «black Bulgarians», who lived in the northern coast of the Azov Sea. It were these Bulgarians, according to the author, who were the aim of Prince Vladimir’s campaign.
