Assessing the adaptive resilience of traditional built forms of villages in flood-prone zones
Description
The global trend towards urbanisation and modernisation has seen the rapid transition from traditional to contemporary materials and construction techniques in the housing sector. While such developments are hailed for their technological sophistication, they have indirectly influenced inflation rates and impacted the distinctive cultural fabric of many rural communities. As a consequence, traditional knowledge systems and practices, which have evolved over centuries and are often tailored to local environments and socio-economic contexts, are getting eroded. In this study, the focus is on the Sundarbans region, where conventional built forms are under threat from both natural disasters and the onslaught of modernisation.
