Bioinformatics
Description
This book provides a thorough overview of the essential aspects of bioinformatics. The book is divided into six parts, starting with an introduction to bioinformatics and how to collect and store sequences in the laboratory. The second part includes five chapters that focus on sequence alignment, covering pairwise sequence alignment, database similarity searching, multiple sequence alignment, profiles and hidden Markov models, and protein motif and domain prediction. Part three concentrates on gene and promoter prediction, consisting of two chapters on gene prediction and promoter, and regulatory elements prediction. Part four delves into molecular phylogenetics, explaining the basics of phylogenetics and phylogenetic tree construction methods and programs. Part five thoroughly explores structural bioinformatics, covering protein structure basics, protein structure visualization, comparison and classification, protein secondary structure prediction, protein tertiary structure prediction, and RNA structure prediction. The final part briefly touches on proteomics but mainly focuses on genomics, explaining genome mapping, assembly and comparison, and functional genomics.
