Description

Terellia odontolophi Korneyev was described from south-western Ukraine from a series of specimens derived from inflorescences of Centaurea ( Odontolophus) trinervia Steph. (Korneyev, 1993), and so far has not been found either in the type locality or outside it (Korneyev et al., 2013). Urophora trinervia Korneyev et White, 1996 is also reared from the inflorescences of the same plant. T. odontolophi Korneyev is similar to species of the virens group of the genus Terellia by greenish-yellow colouration of the body, transparent wings and size, being well distinguished from other species of the group by the presence of a pair of continuous lateral stripes on the 5th tergite of the abdomen of the male (Figs. 1-3), the shape of the glans phallus (Fig. 5) and the aculeus of the female. In the Ulyanovsk region, flies of this species are reared from inflorescences of cornflower Centaurea sumensis Kalen., growing on chalk slopes (52°56'36 "N, 48°07'12 "E: Russia: Ulyanovsk region, Radishchevsky district, 2 km southeast of Srednikovo village, nature monument "Srednikovo". Srednikovo, nature monument "Malaya Atmala", chalk steppe, from Centaurea sumensis Kalen., 25.05.2013 - 13-19.06.2013, 4 ♂, 2 ♀ (Evstigneev) (h=309 m).
