SMART GRID DEVICES IMPLEMENTATION FOR REMOTE MONITORING AND CONTROL SYSTEM EXTENSION IN MEDIUM VOLTAGE POWER GRID
Authors/Creators
Description
The presented technical solution is a connection between the foreign
experience in the construction of power systems equipment and domestic knowledge in
the field of automation and software engineering. In that way, a modern and reliable,
but also economically accessible system is obtained, for remote monitoring and
management of electric power facilities in the Smart Grid system.
Remote units have been introduced into the already existing Smart Grid system, with
an already existing telecommunication and computer infrastructure that envisioned the
radio link as the primary and only communication route with the superior center. In
addition, the selected equipment had to be compatible with different types of digital
devices in the power system facilities and to communicate with the center through the
appropriate communication protocols.
Automation was carried out in 20/0,4 kV substations with switching equipment in
SF6 technology (Ring Main Unit - RMU) and certain sections of 20 kV overhead
network where control switches were installed with protection and reclosing functions
(recloser).
The challenges that have been overcome in this and similar projects have resulted in
the improvement of existing Smart Grid devices, as well as the development of new,
more robust solutions.
