- The effect of combining the components of essential oils Citral and Geraniol to evaluate the synergistic effect was carried out, as shown in (Fig. 4D). The mix showed better inhibition combined with sodium salt. The elements of essential oils were reported to be synergistic in combined treatments degenerating the bacterial cells. P. flourescens cells exposed to C. citratus oil vapour and negative air ions undergo a complete deformation, with cytoplasmic material being ejected from the cells. The cells treated with exclusively negative air ions, on the other hand, have a limited cell surface deformation (Inouye et al., 2007). The lemongrass oil' s volatile component Geraniol and the potassium salt could have interacted with the yeast cell synergistically, resulting in the enhanced damage to the cells (results not shown).
