Webometric Analysis of University Websites in Tamilnadu: A Study

Today, there are several well-known global ranking lists for ranking universities in the world. While some of them
ranked only a few hundreds of best and most influential Universities, there are those include a much larger number of ranking
scientific institutions. Web publication by scholars is not only a tool for scholarly communication. But it is also reach large
number of audiences and reflected performance of the institutions. Webometric covers research of all network based
communication using Informetrics or other quantitative measures. Webometrics, in future, may become one of the most
interesting research area for the vast collection of electronic information available on the publicly indexable web. Web impact
assessment studies gaining more attention day by day since it is useful to improve the organization’s website content for
attracting the customers through their websites. This study focused on University Websites of Tamilnadu. It is found from the
study that the Tamilnadu state University websites are well structured as majority of Universities are having 1000 of both
internal and external links. Among the studied Universities Anna University is at top with 8883 links.
