Description
This dataset is related to healthcare systems in 34 sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) countries covering the period from 2015 to 2019 were used in a study entitled "Performance evaluation of national healthcare systems in prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in sub-Saharan Africa: Data envelopment analysis". The data were sourced from the World Health Organization’s Global Health Expenditure Database (WHO-GHED) and Global Health Observatory (WHO-GHO), World Bank’s World Development Indicators (WB-WDI) and World Governance Indicators (WB-WGI), and the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) databases.
Three output and two input variables were used in this study. The output variables were: the inverse of NCDs mortality rate per 100.000 population, the inverse of NCDs disability-adjusted life years per 100,000 population, and universal health coverage (UHC) index on NCDs. The input variables were: NCDs health spending per capita and health workers density.
The environmental variables used were: smoking per capita, alcohol use per capita, pollution from solid fuel, average of six governance indicators, urbanization measured as proportion of the population living in urban areas, income proxied by the GDP per capita, external funding for NCDs, and private domestic funding for NCDs per capita.
