Modelos GAMLSS: una alternativa para la modelización de la Espirometrı́a en Niños Uruguayos (GAMLSS models: an alternative for the modeling of Spirometry in Uruguayan Children)
Description
This chapter presents a study where models are built to obtain spirometric reference curves in Uruguayan children, using Generalized Additive Models of Location, Scale and Shape, to compare the results with other international stu-
dies. Spirometry refers to a set of variables that account for lung capacity which varies according to lung size, having a direct relationship with height. But it can also vary according to ethnicity and sex. For this reason it is necessary to develop
estimated normal values in a population of Uruguayan children in order to make a comparison within the same environmental, climatological and geographical conditions. The data used for this purpose come from a sample of public and private
schools in Uruguay by a group of researchers from the Centro Hospitalario Pereira Rossell. The results obtained in this work are compared with other international studies, pointing out similarities and differences, both in methodology and sample
design. Percentile tables are constructed, which become reference values at national level, for the spirometric variables that arise from the estimated models, which depend essentially on height for boys and girls.
