Description
This study aims to investigate the effect of the debonding occurred at the adhesive layer of CFRP on
fatigue cracks initiated at in-plane gusset welded joints. First, the fatigue test was conducted with the
specimen repaired by the externally-bonded CFRP using VaRTM technique after introducing an initial
crack. The debonding area in the adhesive layer was observed by the ultrasonic phased-array system
during the fatigue test. Based on fatigue test results, the stress intensity factor was calculated by FEA
considering the debonding area. The results show that the crack growth rate is significantly affected by
CFRP debonding.
