Mathematical Models and Methods

This is the course notes for the University of Florence Ph.D. program that I held in 2012 and 2013. The course was held at the Scuola di Specializzazione in Fisica Medica of the University of Florence, so some parts deal with problems that are of immediate interest to the students, such as tomography. However, I tried to recap many arguments that may not be too familiar with the students that do not hold a degree in mathematics. The book contains many exercises of various degree of difficulty, the answers are given at the end.

While I normally do not use Matlab/Octave, a coincise primer is included.
