Insights into Prevalence of Diseases in Six Adopted Villages of VHMCH: Results fromMedical Camps

This survey aimed todetermine the prevalence of diseases andthe environmental status of six villages ofEllapuram block, Thiruvallur district,India. Two free medical camps wereconducted in each village, and the mostprevailing diseases were recorded.Poorivakkam had a population of 448 witha literacy rate of 73.46%, andosteoarthritis was the most prevalentdisease at 25%. Akkarapakkam had apopulation of 1562 with a literacy rate of79.53%, and osteoarthritis was also themost prevalent disease at 32.4%.Athivakkam had a population of 272 with aliteracy rate of 87.55%, and lowerrespiratory tract infection was the mostprevalent disease at 25%. Azhinjivakkamhad a population of 1305 with a literacyrate of 86%, and osteoarthritis was againthe most prevalent disease at 24%.Amindanallur had a population of 1018with a literacy rate of 78.96% andosteoarthritis was most prevalent at 22%.Maduravasal had a population of 981 witha literacy rate of 68.91% withosteoarthritis as the most prevalent diseaseat 15%. The environmental status of all sixvillages was poor in terms of sanitation andsolid waste disposal. The study emphasizesthe need for improving personal hygieneand sanitation in these villages to preventthe spread of diseases.
