Software and Dataset (Aggegation, Variance and Mean in Braided Channel Networks)

This repository includes the software and dataset related to the research paper entitled:

- S. Rizzello et al., Multiscaling Behaviour of Braided Channel Networks: A New Formulation of the Taylor's Law Variate Transformations (DOI to be updated).

In particular, the following files are included in the repository:

1. "readme.pdf" describes how to use the Mathematica codes for the extraction and sectioning of the river images from satellite acquisition;
2. "1995st_30.bmp" is an example of river image to be analysed;
3. "river.extractor.nb" and "sectioning.nb" are the two Mathematica files for the extraction of river statistics;
4. "example.of.executed.analysis.zip" is a (unprotected) zipped folder containing an exampel of execution of the river analysis;
5. "extracted.rivers.zip" is a (unprotected) zipped folder containing all the river domain extracted theough the adoption of the "river.extractor.nb code, and whose statistics are reported in the reserch paper above. The braided channels domain images (in BMP format, see point 5) above) have been extracted from Landsat satellite images, available through the United States Geological Survey Earth Explorer Tool.
6. "statistics.zip" is a (unprotected) zipped folder including all the Nbc (Number of braided channels) and Wbc (Width of braided channels) at maximum resolution, as calculated (among the other statistical data) with the code "sectioning.nb". Files in the zipped folders are in text format.

Finally, the movie "year.sequence.river.mp4" shows the time evolution of the river domain (note: time steps are not regular).
