GHRSST Short course on satellite-derived SST: Infrared Radiometry
Description
This training material is part of the 1st GHRSST short course on satellite-derived SST, which took place at the University of Cape Town from 29-30 May 2014. The short course consists of six sessions with the overall objectives to:
- Increase knowledge about GHRSST and what GHRSST provides
- Increase knowlege of Infrared Radiometry radiative transfer, cloud masking and SST retrieval
- Application of gained knowledge with real practical examples
The Infrared Radiometry session provides outlines:
- Difference between passive and active measurements
- Reviews concepts and definitions including power, flux, flux density, irradiane, spectral irradiance, radiance, spectral radiance
- Emission (Planck's Function)
- Emissivity
- Kirchhoff's Law
- Effects of atmosphere
- Infrared radiometry - measuring temperature
