  • 1. University of Miami

Description

This training material is part of the 1st GHRSST short course on satellite-derived SST, which took place at the University of Cape Town from 29-30 May 2014. The short course consists of six sessions with the overall objectives to:

  • Increase knowledge about GHRSST and what GHRSST provides
  • Increase knowlege of Infrared Radiometry radiative transfer, cloud masking and SST retrieval
  • Application of gained knowledge with real practical examples

The Infrared Radiometry session provides outlines:

  • Difference between passive and active measurements
  • Reviews concepts and definitions including power, flux, flux density, irradiane, spectral irradiance, radiance, spectral radiance
  • Emission (Planck's Function)
  • Emissivity
  • Kirchhoff's Law
  • Effects of atmosphere
  • Infrared radiometry - measuring temperature
