REGIONAL DIALECTS AND COLLOQUIALISMS

Description

One of the defining features of Stephen King's writing is his use of regional dialects and colloquialisms to capture the unique flavor of different parts of America. "The Shawshank Redemption" is set in Maine, and Darabont and his team worked hard to capture the distinctive accent and slang of the region. This is most evident in the character of Red, played by Morgan Freeman. Red's voiceover narration is full of colloquialisms and regional slang, such as "I'm known to locate certain things from time to time," which gives the character a distinctive voice and personality.
