Description

While EURAF welcomes mentions of agroforestry in the Forestry Strategy 2030, we note that the two previous strategies have also stressed the importance of agroforestry without converting this to targets in their Forestry Action Plans.  Trees outside Forests (ToF) are crucial to Europe's environment and to climate adaptation and mitigation strategies. However, Member States are very bad at monitoring and valueing them. Proposals are given to focus tree planting on current "tree deserts", which are also the areas of greatest environmental stress.  Taking the priority areas, with 4-5 environmental stresses, EURAF estimates that an additional 3.13 million trees should be planted outside the forest by  2030.
