Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and other queer individuals is a community that is united by their unique culture
and social movements. LGBTQ+ community generally celebrates sexuality, individuality and their pride in being
different from others.
Homosexuality was considered as a crime in India since a very long time which suggests that it existed in different
times and was acknowledged in the Indian society however it was never approved as was it was considered to be
against the nature.
In contemporary India, we witnessed from the LGBTQ+ community being suppressed and marginalised to getting
approval and recognition from Indian government. In 2018, homosexuality was decriminalized in India and under
The Transgender Persons (Protection of Right) act, 2019, transgender people can now fight for their rights. Under
a specific provision of the same act it is also stated that 'no person or establishment, whether government or private,
should discriminate against a transgender person in matters of employment, including recruitment or promotion or
in any other related areas.'
After decriminalizing section 377, India witnessed many people coming out as homosexuals and getting accepted by
society (to a certain extent, because some people still see them as abnormal or against nature's orders) and various
work industries and organizations.
This research paper aims to observe, understand and study how after decriminalizing section 377, the LGBTQ+
community was able to effectively participate in the society and whether society accepted them as they are, at the
same time this research paper will also make an attempt to understand the relation between social inclusion of
LGBTQ+ community and economy of India nation by studying the active participation of LGBTQ+ community in
various work sectors and dominant fields.
