Description

In this survey paper, we will introduce the mapping class group of a topological surface. The group has been extensively studied in many areas of mathematics. We will see how the mapping class groups appear in the study of rational points of the generic curves. Algebraic curves, the symplectic representation of the mapping class groups, and the moduli space of smooth projective curves are briefly reviewed.
