Authors/Creators

Description

TORCH syndrome, or TORCH infections, is a generic name used to refer to a group of intrauterine infections (IUI). The term proposed by Andre J. Nahmias in 1971 is based on the abbreviation (by the first letters) of the Latin names of the most frequently verified congenital infections:

T – toxoplasmosis

O – other infections (Other)

R – Rubella (Rubella)

C – Cytomegalia (Cytomegalia)

H – infections caused by Herpes simplex virus (Herpes).
