Authors/Creators
Description
Abstract: The Internet, which was introduced to the Indian public in the mid-1990s, is becoming the dominant means of communication. To assess the impact of the Internet on various aspects of socio-economic dimensions in India, it is pertinent to comprehend the pattern of its diffusion. The paper uses the most popular S-shaped growth curve model, the logistic function, in a suitably modified form to assess the diffusion. Estimated projections reveal that India is likely to achieve universal Internet access by the year 2029-30 potentially making it a turning point in the socio-economic trajectory of the country with implications. Universality of Internet is likely to bring huge benefits to society and support attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
