Description

This article is devoted to the study of the phenomenon of freedom in the work of Hryhorii Skovoroda and in the modern historical realities of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The researcher emphasizes that Hryhorii Skovoroda considered a person's desire for freedom, freedom from sin as the highest gift, the good of a person, the main goal and measure of their life, and he directly connected the “spirit of freedom” with God. Of course, we are talking about the idea of the inner freedom of a person, which frees a person from the attractions and burdens of the pre-temporal material world. The humanist of the Baroque era emphasizes the importance of spiritual values, in particular freedom, in the early life of a person.

The article suggests that the basis of H. Skovoroda's epitaph: “The world caught me, but did not catch me” is the biblical Sodom story of Lot breaking the chains of sin, the charms of the pre-temporal world on the way to the freedom given to man by God.

The Sodom discourse that began in biblical texts, developed in the treatises of Hryhorii Skovoroda, and has its continuation in the real pictures of the Russian-Ukrainian war, but already with a completely opposite meaning to its biblical and Pandey meanings. For modern Ukrainians, the slogan “Will (freedom) or death” has become a guide to liberating and radical actions. The semantics of the concept of FREEDOM  nowadays, in the conditions of the terrible Russian-Ukrainian war, is interpreted equally with the concept of LIFE.
