EXERCÍCIO E LIMITES DA LIBERDADE: A E/IMIGRAÇÃO PARA O BRASIL NA TRAJETÓRIA E NO DIÁRIO DE P. SCHWARZER (1862-1864)
Description
This text aims to discuss freedom and constraints in the migration trajectory of a young man, who left the province Silesia, Kingdom of Prussia, and in 1862 emigrated to South Brazil in the wake of the great European migrations to the Americas. The guiding questions are: How is the e/immigration experienced? To what extent were migration and relocation in Brazil perceived as exercises of freedom? In what way did social constraints and functions of the family influence his trajectory and his self-writing? The discussion is based on studies on “self-writing”, migrations and individual trajectories. The study of his trajectory demonstrates how this immigrant reformulated his migration “project” within the “field of possibilities” he could find in Brazil and considers his role in the emigration project of the family. The analysis of the narrative demonstrates how this Other (the family) is inscribed in his “self writing”. The analysis of the narrative likewise demonstrates how Others (the family members) are inscribed in his “self-writing”. The constitution of the self and the “archive of the self” act in the affirmation of unity and family loyalty in addition to subjectivation. This is promoted by the analysis of that autobiographical writing.
