  • 1. Guru Jambheswar University of Science & Technology

Description

Abstract

Over many decades, the minds of criminal offenders have been studied thoroughly and the justice system has tried to make a holistic sense of their behaviour. This chapter encompasses many characteristics that have been observed by researchers about the role of psychology and counselling in dealing with criminal minds, as well as with juveniles. The chapter is critically analyzed to review all the psychological aspects of counselling that may have had a direct or indirect association with criminal offenders and juvenile delinquents. These studies were spanning all over India and the sample taken was of criminal offenders in the age range of 14-40 years, with varied criminal court proceedings done in the past decade. The methodology included both primary and secondary data such as self-report questionnaires, scholarly articles, journals, magazines etc.

Furthermore, the analysis of the literature showed that there is an impertinent need to bring out the fundamentals of criminal behaviour more clearly. Also, this chapter explains how counselling can help alleviate these behavioural aspects, to the better functioning of the individual and the society, especially in the case of juvenile delinquents. Future empirical research and beneficiary reforms are recommended through this in-depth analysis of the current topic.
