PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF REGIONAL RURAL BANKS IN INDIA

Rural Banking in India refers to a set up of financial institutions to provide agricultural and rural credit in rural
areas for their economic development. The success of rural credit in India is largely depends on their financial
strength. The main objective behind setting up of RRBs was to attain the rural development through the
betterment of weaker section of the society. At present, most of the regional rural banks are facing the problems
of overdue, recovery nonperforming assets and other problems. Therefore, it is necessary to study financial
performance of RRBs in India. This paper attempts to analyze the financial performance of RRBs in India during
the period 2010-11 to 2015-16. The study is based on secondary data collected form annual reports of NABARD
and RBI. Indicators Analysis such as number of banks and branches, deposits, loans, investments and growth
rate index is followed in the present study..
