AROUND AN UNPRECEDENTED CORRESPONDENCE BETWEEN HEITOR VILLA-LOBOS AND MARGUERITE LONG

Abstract: The private collection of French pianist Marguerite Long (1874-1966), owned by the Mediathèque Musical Mahler in Paris, has an extensive archive which contains a significant collection of correspondence received from a large number of personalities. This collection includes three letters in French, written by the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, sent to the renowned pianist: two of them dated 1952, typed and another entirely handwritten and undated. This article, result of an ongoing research, intends to transcribe, translate and think about this brief but revealing correspondence.
