Description

The Ocean Global Circulation Mo dels (OGCMs) aim at simulating the various movements of the ocean, one of them being the Miami Isopycnic Coordinate Ocean Model (MICOM) develop ed at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and AtmosphericSciences at the University of Miami and used at NERSC. A more recent model, HYbrid Coordinate Ocean Model (HYCOM), which actually derivate from MICOM
and is in its basis isopycnal too, has also been used at NERSC. While MICOM has already been coupled to an Ecosystem Model to simulate movements and behaviour of biological tracers, this has not been the case for HYCOM yet.

The first two chapters of this report consist of a brief theoretical presentation of respectively the physical and the ecosystem models. It should set the context of the project. Then, in the third chapter, the different steps for dealing with the project and some problems encountered are described, and eventually an outcome of this training period is built. Finally, the last chapter discusses some of the results that were obtained and that are presented here as well.
