Envisat monitoring and Forecasting services for offshore Industry. D-4 D-5

The EMOFOR services are designed to operate in three different modes and use an integrated system of information from i) satellite remote sensing of the sea surface; ii) in situ measurements of currents as function of time and depth; and iii) 3-D oceanographical fields from ocean models. These are requirements defined by Fugro GEOS and the customers who will use the services.

The EMOFOR services can be classified into four levels varying from low-cost services that are highly automated up to higher cost service cost with increasing human support. The four service levels can be described as:
1) Basic – generic EO-data based service. Keywords: low-medium resolution (1-5 km), low-cost nowcasting, highly automated, bi weekly
2) Site-specific nowcasting service. Keywords: includes i) plus use of SAR, plus use of in situ data, plus GIS data and human analysis.
3) Site-specific forecasting service. Keywords: includes i) plus ii) plus use of regional, medium- resolution model for 1 – 7 days forecasting,
4) Operational support. Keywords: includes i) and ii) plus use of high-resolution models for 1 – 7 days forecasting, plus 24 hour telephone support and briefing to operational headquarter
